Professorship for life
In order to be appointed to a tenured professorship, postdocs must - contrary to the tenure-track professorship - have already attained full appointability. This goal is therefore open primarily to advanced postdocs, who have to compete against established professors in the appointment process.
To become a professor, you must meet the following hiring requirements according to Section 62 of the Hessian Higher Education Act (HHG):
- Completed university studies, as a rule a doctorate.
- Qualification for scientific or artistic work, usually proven by the quality of the doctoral degree
- Additional scientific achievements
- Pedagogical aptitude
In addition to these statutory minimum requirements, professorship advertisements contain further individual requirements that vary according to the department, the content of the position and its value.
