We would like to learn from you and include your knowledge and experience with this topic.  What does living queer mean in your home country?

Format:

The workshop will be conducted online. The trainer will incorporate interactive elements, utilizing the free tool "polleverywhere" for participants, which can be accessed via mobile phone or browser without prior registration. Participants' anonymous contributions will be broadcast live, allowing all participants to see what others have shared. Participants will also have the opportunity to ask their questions live and receive direct feedback from the trainer. Additionally, participants will engage in breakout sessions to further explore exercises in teams.

The workshop will be conducted by Bastian Hughes. Bastian Hughes is an expert in career and job applications. With over 17 years of experience as a former recruiter, consultant, and career coach, Bastian has successfully connected individuals and companies. His vision: "To create a world where people can develop personally and professionally, and succeed in what they enjoy the most!" For this reason, he founded the company “Berufsoptimierer”, through which he, along with his team, accompanies and supports individuals at every step of their career journey through coaching, workshops, and the weekly podcast “Berufsoptimierer – Erfolg in Bewerbung und Karriere”.

You have to give a presentation in one of your seminars and are not quite sure how? Maybe you already delivered some presentations, but you didn't get the feedback you desired? Don’t panic! In this seminar, together with fellow students, we will answer all your questions. Starting with the structure of a presentation, the course will also teach practical tricks on how to put together your slide deck, how to stay calm and how to present yourself in front of others to level up your presentation game. This course regards on-campus as well as online presentations.

Jaqueline Erlach has studied M.A. Speech Science in Marburg and works as a workshop trainer for several universities. She has worked with different national and international groups as she was travelling around Europe for about a year. Now back to being a freelance seminar leader, she offers workshops on goal setting, voice training, motivation, rhetoric, self-presentation and moderation in work groups.

Effective academic communication is the basis of successful scholarly work. Transferring the output of your research to other scholars and practitioners is probably the most important component in academics. But: academic writing is not like other styles of communication. It has own conventions that ensure clear, explicit and logically consistent contents.

In this workshop participants will experience helpful and sustainable strategies to keep their writing on track.

  Adopting strategies for different writing needs.

Dr. Iris Krimmel is familiar with all aspects of academic writing. After working for many years as a political scientist, she started to work as a writing coach in 2019 and supports young scholars and scientists in every stage of the academic writing process. Instructor: Nadine Golly (KARFI – Black Collective for Empowerment and race-critical education)

To this day, universities often claim to be universal. Against this background, however, exclusions are produced: who naturally belongs to the scientific community and who has to explain their position over and over again? Who can and cannot ignore racist language and content in hallway talks, seminars and texts? In the intertwining of racism and gender discrimination, students of color often experience an exhausting everyday university life. Classifying these experiences for oneself, reflecting on their structural dimensions and finding ways of dealing with them personally is part of an empowering process.

With this Empowerment Workshop we want to create a safer space where we can talk and reflect on racism and empowerment. We will take a look at how experiencing racism affects our lives and try to determine the effects of structural racism. We also intend to reflect on the strategies we use to deal with racism and talk about community solidarity and support.

Important:

The workshop is intended as a safer space. It is aimed exclusively at students who have experienced racism in Germany and is open to (international) BIPoC students (students of Color, Black students, students who face Anti-asian, Anti-muslim, Anti-Black, Gadjé-racism).

In the workshop, different dimensions of empowerment against racism in general as well as concrete examples of activist approaches at universities will be presented.

In addition, the participants have the opportunity to exchange experiences of racism in everyday life and on an institutional level. The aim is to jointly develop emancipative counter-strategies.

It is a fair challenge to study in a foreign country. One will gain new experiences and evolve.

But it is exhausting as well, as we are confronted with a lot of unfamiliar behaviour, and often we do not know what is appropriate and what is not.

This workshop has been designed to help International Students to cope at German Universities. We will discuss different ways of teaching and learning and try to give support for everyday communication in Germany as well.

Elisabeth Sommerhoff studied Drama and Literature at the University Gießen, in Vienna (Austria) and at Yale University (USA). She spent five years teaching at the University of Birmingham (Great Britain). Currently she is working at the University of Regensburg in the field of Intercultural Rhetoric Competence.

Of course, you can use one of the many sample proposals in Internet to prepare your applications. You could give it even a try with AI. This seem to work quickly, is practical and costs nothing. However, will it be of any use? Doesn't it make more sense to create your application individually? With the arguments and content that speak only for you? Employers are looking for employees who are able to actually DO the job.

Your application must prove that this is the case. Empty phrases and general places are hardly sufficient to stand out from the competition. In our seminar you will learn with practical examples how to analyze job descriptions, what is convincing to decision makers in companies and how to put your skills in the right light.

Get more insight about the typical "German way" to write applications. Therefore, we are going to talk about CV and cover letter and the necessity of application photos.

This online workshop „Raising Awareness: An Introduction to Anti-Racism“ is both informative and interactive. In this workshop, the topic of anti-racism will be introduced and it aims to and raise awareness. The main areas of work of Anisa Abdulaziz are diversity, (anti)discrimination, intersectionality, criticism of racism, flight and migration.

Die Aufregung und Nervosität sind groß, wenn die schriftliche Bewerbung erfolgreich war und eine Einladung zum Auswahlverfahren ins Haus flattert. Viele Fragen schwirren durch den Kopf, was auf einen zukommen könnte. Gut sein alleine genügt oft nicht – nun sollten Sie es Ihrem Gegenüber auch zeigen können.

Sich selbst zu präsentieren fällt den meisten Menschen jedoch nicht gerade leicht. Rückmeldungen von bisherigen Teilnehmenden zeigen: Gut vorbereitet kann man zu mehr Struktur und Selbstvertrauen im Gespräch kommen.

Im Workshop wollen wir daher gemeinsam betrachten:

• Wie kann ich mich vorbereiten?
• Wie läuft ein typisches Gespräch ab und mit welchen Fragen muss ich rechnen?
• Wie und was erzähle ich über mich selbst?
• Stress pur durch Lücken im Lebenslauf, Studienwechsel oder lange Studiendauer? Wie spreche ich darüber?

Die Erfahrung zeigt, dass neben theoretischem Wissen über das Vorstellungsgespräch das Üben der Selbstpräsentation ein wichtiger Schritt zum Erfolg ist. Daher üben wir kleine Gesprächssequenzen und sehen, wie man Pannen vermeidet und sich ins rechte Licht rückt. Natürlich gibt es auch ausgiebig Gelegenheit, Ihre Fragen zu stellen.
