Introduction to concept-based research and possible connections to Research Areas
This second part of the MC series is meant to help the participants to find and define their own position in a wider research context: not only in the context of the GCSC and its study program, but also in the broader research landscape of theories, methods and research questions in the study of culture in Germany and in an international context.
This MC thus will basically consist of a discussion of the relevance of concepts and methodological / theoretical approaches for the dissertation projects. It encourages working with “travelling concepts” and with research ideas in formation to enrich the scope of the Research Areas.

Basic Requirement for Preparation

  • Revisiting one’s own dissertation proposal with a special and systematic focus on explicit or implicit (key) concepts in the individual project.
  • Why does working in Research Areas make sense? How can this work be made effective?
