The fundamental structure of studies of the two courses Literatures of the Ancient World (Greek/Latin Philology) and Historic and Present Visual Cultures: Classical Archaeology/History of Art plans a combination of one major subject and two ancillary subjects within the two subject areas. Students must take classes in the major subject totalling 50 cp and 20 cp each in the ancillary subjects. Within the subject areas one of the two subjects will be studied as the major subject and the other one as an ancillary subject – or the reverse order. For example, if in the course Literatures of the Ancient World (Greek/Latin Philology), Latin Philology is chosen as the major subject, then Greek Philology becomes the first ancillary subject - or the reverse. If in the course Historic and Present Visual Cultures: Classical Archaeology/History of Art, Art History is chosen as the major subject, then Classical Archaeology becomes the first ancillary subject - or the reverse. (And overlapping combination of, for example, Art History and Greek Philology is not designated). At all events it is obligatory that the second ancillary subject is the interdisciplinary one. This structure guarantees the acquisition of a Master`s degree programme with a clearly identified major subject and at the same time, at the methodological level, an integrated, trans-disciplinary perspective and the establishment of an emphasis on the examination and analysis of the ancient period and its continued existence as a constituent occidental element. Generally, in the concept of the courses attention is paid to offering the greatest compatibility. The opening of the course in the direction of a multiple-subject MA with individual subjects selected from the major and minor ones, is possible, whereby the ancillary subjects, each with 20 cp must be replaced with an ancillary subject totalling 40 cp (analogous to the so-called Grosses Nebenfach (big minor subject) of the multiple BA of faculty 04.) After consultation with the advisory committee it is also possible in exceptional cases to replace a module or class with units from connected subjects. 1. Variant:
