In the last years, “diversity” has become a concept often referred to in German higher education policy, management, and teaching. As an umbrella term that encompasses different dimensions such as gender, ethnicity, and socio-economic background (to name but a few), diversity is a highly complex concept difficult to handle. In practical terms, what do university teachers have to consider in order to be diversity-sensitive?

In this workshop you will learn about diversity both as a concept and an approach to teaching; you will reflect on the implications of a diverse classroom and on possible consequences for teaching; and you will think about how to handle challenging situations which might result from the students’ diversity.

Referentin: Dr. Claudia Weber (TU Darmstadt, Hochschuldidaktische Arbeitsstelle und Arbeitsbereich Technikdidaktik)
