Student Account

You have enrolled at JLU and want to know what to do now? How do I get my account (user name and password)? What do I have to do if my personal data changes and what do I have to consider when I withdraw my matriculation? On this page, we would like to answer these questions.

Application and Enrolment

After enrolment, you will receive an email to the email address you provided during the application/enrolment process. Please follow the instructions in the email to activate your account and thus receive a user name and password.

Whether your account is still valid when you re-enrol depends on how long ago you exmatriculated: if this is more than 15 months, you will receive a new account. If it is less than 15 months, your old account will be reactivated. However, if you change your field of study, you will receive a new e-mail address. After enrolment, you will receive information about your account by e-mail to the e-mail address you have entered in the application portal.

Yes, you can already participate in a pre-course. However, since you do not yet have an account to participate in JLU's digital offerings at the time of application, you can apply for a so-called pre-account. To do this, first select the appropriate pre-course and then follow the instructions for applying for a pre-account on the page of the respective pre-course. Registering for the account only takes a few minutes. You can then use your pre-course account to register for the pre-course.

Please note that the pre-courses are published on the website about four weeks before the start of the semester. If no pre-courses are displayed to you yet, please try again at a later date.

With the pre-course account, you can already use the central learning platforms Stud.IP and ILIAS. You can also take part in any digital pre-course programmes once you have been added by the course instructor.

If you already have a preliminary account when you enrol, you do not need to do anything else. The preliminary account will automatically be upgraded to a full account. You will be informed about this by e-mail.

Commencement of Studies

Information on the electronic systems at JLU is available in our setup brochure . You will also get an overview of the electronic systems during the Orientation Week .

During Studies

The certificate of study will be provided automatically in the GUDE portal when you first enrol and after successful re-registration.

Information on changing your password can be found here .

Your user ID (“s-Kennung”) will remain the same.

If you are already studying at JLU, your e-mail address will remain the same. New students will receive e-mail addresses according to the scheme @stud.uni-giessen.de. The e-mail addresses of currently enrolled students will only be changed if you change your degree programme or name (e.g. if you get married).

Your degree programme assignment will also be updated in the systems (e.g. Stud.IP and FlexNow) with a slight time delay to a certain deadline.

Further information on the simplification of e-mail subdomains can be found here .

You can submit applications for changes to personal data in the GUDE portal . Please follow the instructions provided with the respective applications. The Registrar's Office will process your application online and information will be sent to you in the portal and, if necessary, by email.

As soon as the registrar's office has changed your name in the student system, your e-mail address will also be changed. You will be informed about this by e-mail. Do not worry: messages to your old e-mail address will continue to be delivered to the same mailbox; in principle, you will then have two e-mail addresses, but only one mailbox. If necessary, please change the corresponding settings/information in the e-mail programme you use so that the new e-mail address is used.

You can change your address yourself in the GUDE portal . The change of address has no effect on your account, everything remains the same.

New students will receive e-mail addresses according to the scheme @stud.uni-giessen.de. The e-mail addresses of currently enrolled students will only be changed if you change your degree programme or name (e.g. if you get married).

Sometimes students need an additional subdomain (that is the abbreviation that comes after the @) in order to use publishers' licensable offerings.

You can have a e-mail alias (additional subdomainaddress) set up by the HRZ. This alias address can only be used to receive e-mails, but not to send them. The prerequisite is that you are enrolled in an authorised degree programme or are employed in an authorised organisational unit. This only applies to the following subdomains:

  • @physik.uni-giessen.de
  • @chemie.uni-giessen.de
  • @bio.uni-giessen.de
  • @materialwiss.uni-giessen.de
  • @med.uni-giessen.de
  • @lama.uni-giessen.de

Please contact the HRZ (IT Service Centre) with your request for an additional subdomain via support .

Further information on the simplification of e-mail subdomains can be found here .

You do not have to do anything else. Your account will continue to run as usual. The certificate of study will be provided automatically in the GUDE portal after successful re-registration.

Exmatriculation

After your de-registration, we will give you time, for example, to discuss exam results by mail, download data from your courses or access Flexnow (examination management system). Only a few services are no longer possible as of the day of de-registration, for example the use of the university Wi-Fi, the online services of the UB (university library) that require a license and the Nextbike rental bikes.

You can continue to use ILIAS, Stud.IP, the JLUbox and your e-mail address for three months after de-registration. Please note, however, that use beyond these three months is not possible. Therefore, back up all data in good time and, if necessary, inform your contacts that you can soon be reached via a new e-mail address (e.g. your private e-mail address).

Twelve months after your exmatriculation, Flexnow can also no longer be used.

We are sorry that an extension of the grace period is not possible.

If you have withdrawn your enrolment, you can no longer use your account and the services of JLU. With the application for de-registration , you must return your student ID and the study certificates to the registrar's office.
