Summer School: New Horizons in the Trans/National Studies of Literature and Culture

Das International Graduate Centre for the Study of Culture (GCSC) veranstaltet vom 5.-9. September 2016 eine internationale Sommerschule zum Thema “New Horizons in the Trans/National Studies of Literature and Culture” in Gießen.

Die vom Deutschen Akademischen Austauschdienst (DAAD) geförderte Sommerschule richtet sich an Studierende der Literatur- und Kulturwissenschaften in höheren Semestern (insbesondere Masterstudierende), die sich für eine Promotion interessieren.

Im Rahmen der Sommerschule kommen Sie nicht nur in den Genuss eines hochkarätigen Programms, sondern haben auch die Möglichkeit in thematisch breit gefächerten Workshops sowie bei gemeinsamen Ausflügen nach Frankfurt und Wetzlar Kontakte zu anderen Studierenden aus dem In- und Ausland zu knüpfen.

Nutzen Sie diese einmalige Chance, um sich einen umfassenden Überblick über spannende Themen innerhalb der Literatur- und Kulturwissenschaften zu verschaffen und gleichzeitig das Angebot des GCSC, das speziell auf die Interessen der Promovierenden zugeschnitten ist, kennenzulernen.

Durch die Teilnahme an der Sommerschule verpflichten Sie sich, an allen Workshops und Vorträgen zu partizipieren. The International Centre for the Study of Culture (GCSC) will host an international Summer School on the topic of "New Horizons in the Trans/National Studies of Literature and Culture" from 5-9 September 2016 in Giessen.

The Summer School, funded by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), seeks to address students of literary and cultural studies reaching the end of their studies (especially Master Student's) who are interested in pursuing a Ph.D. 

In the context of the Summer School, you will not only be able to participate in an academic program of high quality, but you will also be able to get to know students from Germany and other European countries in interdisciplinary workshops and during excursions to Frankfurt and the historic city of Wetzlar. 

Use this great opportunity to get an overview of emerging topics in literary and cultural studies and the doctoral programs at the GCSC, which are tailor-made and consist of an internationally oriented research training curriculum. 

If you would like to take part in the Summer School, please send your application (including a letter of motivation, CV, university certificate or transcript of records, English language certificate) no later than 30 May 2016 to

Please explain in your cover letter what your research interests are and give reasons why you are interested in one or several workshops. Please note that the attendance of all workshops is mandatory for the participants of the Summer School.
