Socio-Economic Intervention Lab

Anti-Discrimination Project

Welcome to the Socio-Economic Intervention Lab (SECI Lab)

About Us

The Socio-Economic Intervention Lab (SECI Lab) is an emergent research group dedicated to addressing social discrimination and inequality through socio-economic interventions. Our multidisciplinary team of committed researchers applies evidence-based approaches to create sustainable impacts in communities worldwide. As part of a global network, we aim to enhance global efforts towards greater social justice and inclusion.

Context

In a world where inequality and discrimination persistently challenge social harmony, the SECI Lab focuses on transformative socio-economic interventions to address these deep-rooted issues. Our engagement began with a formal collaboration with the Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) and Justus-Liebig-University Giessen's Centre for International Development and Environmental Research (ZEU), as part of the "Support to Social Inclusion in Serbia" project. This partnership underscores our commitment to developing effective strategies that contribute to sustainable development, gender equality, and the reduction of discriminatory practices.

Our Approach

At SECI Lab, we conduct longitudinal and quasi-experimental studies to assess the effectiveness of interventions aimed at promoting social inclusion. Our research methodology is designed to develop practical solutions that are adaptable both locally and globally. By merging innovative research techniques with thorough analysis, we make crucial contributions to reducing social tensions and fostering an inclusive societal climate.

Research Themes and Projects

Our initial project in Serbia, conducted in collaboration with GIZ, focuses on measuring and enhancing empowerment and active listening. These initiatives are crucial for cultivating a culture of acceptance and appreciation of diversity. Our work with local communities and stakeholders results in significant improvements in attitudes towards marginalized groups. Specific activities include:

  • Development and Implementation of Training Modules: Focused on reducing discriminatory practices, especially against women, and integrating services such as effective referral systems during counseling.
  • Capacity Building and Exchange of Best Practices: Sharing expertise and tools between organizations to improve the effectiveness of social workers and service providers under heavy workload conditions.

Collaborations and Partnerships

SECI Lab actively seeks collaboration with other research institutions, NGOs, government agencies, and international organizations. Our partnerships enable us to share knowledge and resources, and collaboratively develop effective strategies to tackle social challenges.

Impact and Outreach

Our research has led to tangible improvements in social inclusion and diversity. By working closely with local communities and stakeholders, we not only enhance attitudes towards marginalized groups but also initiate practical solutions for long-term social change. Our commitment is reflected in the impact of our research on developing more inclusive communities and shaping policies that advance diversity and inclusion at the societal level.
