Oxygen Direct Current (DC) discharge with two platinum electrodes. Taken from the diploma thesis of S. Steinmüller
Hot and cold at the same time: While the electrons in the bluish-reddish glowing plasma reach temperatures of several 10000 °C, the glass container stays immersed in a bath of -196 °C icy cold, liquid nitrogen. Shot taken during experiments to investigate the interface of ionic liquids with plasmas. Picture submitted by S.A. Meiss, M. Pölleth, C. Weidmann
