Course Content

You may be familiar with this: your voice feels strained or hoarse after lectures and seminars. However, for your teaching, you need a voice that can project effortlessly and convey content effectively. Your voice and speaking style significantly influence whether your students listen attentively or quickly tune out.

The ‘Day for the Voice’ gives you the opportunity to get to know your own voice and make it fit for teaching.  After a brief introduction to the function of the voice, the focus will be on feedback on your own voice and practical exercises on posture, breathing, vocal tone and speaking style. On this day, you will learn exercises for a voice-friendly way of speaking and work on exercises for a flexible voice that can adapt to the speaking situation and the room, reaches students well and resonates.

Note: Please wear comfortable clothing to the workshop that allows for free movement.

Intended Learning Outcomes

After attending the workshop, you will be able to:

  • Assess the effectiveness of voice and speaking style.
  • Recognize your own vocal abilities and expand them using the exercises introduced.

Intended Learning Outcomes

  • Function and effect of posture, breathing, vocal sound, and articulation for teaching
  • Providing feedback and reflecting on one's own voice and speaking style
  • Practicing exercises that effectively support one's voice and promote voice-friendly speaking for teaching purposes
