! Breaking News - Upcoming Events !

From August 27 - 28, 2024, the Anton Paar Cooperation Seminar - Porous Materials will be held at the University of Giessen!

The seminar is aimed at users who deal with the synthesis and characterization of porous materials. We are very pleased to welcome speakers from research and industry to JLU Giessen and warmly encourage all interested parties to attend!

For more information on participation, etc., please visit the Anton Paar website: Click here!

From September 02 - 05, 2024, the Circular Economy Summer School Giessen will be held at the University of Giessen!

We are very pleased to be involved in the organization, management, and on-site activities, and we look forward to numerous visits and interesting discussions on the question:

"How can we manufacture durable, reusable, repairable, and recyclable products from raw materials that are not harmful to living beings and the natural environment through energy-efficient, environmentally friendly, and waste-free production?"

What a week-long event! The CLOCKS Summer School on the topic of Circular Economy | Thu 05.09.2024

From September 2nd to 5th, the "CLOCKS" Summer School on the topic of Circular Economy took place in the Department of Chemistry at JLU Giessen. Students from various European countries attended lectures and tutorials by renowned experts on relevant topics such as circular economy issues in recycling Li-ion batteries and building materials.

"CLOCKS" is an initiative aimed at developing high-quality education for students in the field of the circular economy (CLOCKS = CLOsing the Loop: Building Circular sKillS on the Whole Value Chain) and represents a joint project of several European institutions, supported by the EIT initiative. The University of Padua, the University of Ljubljana, and JLU serve as the main academic partners in this consortium (see https://clocksproject.eu/), which is embedded in the long-standing successful cooperation in the fields of chemistry and materials science.

As a key activity, the CLOCKS project develops and conducts international summer schools on the topic of "circular economy," offered to students in the natural sciences. After the summer school in Padua in 2023, the summer school at JLU in 2024 was held under the motto "Circularity and Sustainability by Design" and was coordinated by Prof. Silvia Gross (Padua) and Prof. Bernd Smarsly (JLU).

80 MSc and PhD students from various European countries attended lectures by renowned experts such as Prof. Klaus Kümmerer (Lüneburg), a pioneer in sustainable chemistry, and engaged in lively discussions about circularity strategies. In addition, the students focused on developing creative solutions for given tasks in the areas of electronic and textile waste during a hackathon challenge.

Since the participating students expressed great satisfaction with the summer school and "sustainability" is a key focus at the partner institutions in the fields of chemistry and materials science, it is planned to continue this joint summer school annually in the future.

The Anton Paar cooperation seminar on the topic of Porous Materials - a complete success! | Wed 28.08.2024

From August 27 to 28, the cooperation seminar on "Porous Materials" by Anton Paar took place with us in Giessen. With fundamental lectures on topics such as the general characterization of porous materials, the standardization of measurement procedures with respect to reproducible and accurate use of measuring instruments and regulations, the basics of physisorption and its limitations, as well as on current research areas and developments in physisorption, the first day was an important factor in establishing a common discussion basis for all participants.

Insights into the use of porous materials and their characterization in large German companies led to very interesting panel discussions and smaller conversations with representatives from Schunk Kohlenstoff GmbH, Daimler Truck AG, and BASF SE on the second day of the seminar, which could not be continued on-site due to the limited time!

We thank all speakers for their contributions, all participants for attending and the lively discussions, as well as Anton Paar for the successful joint organization with us in Giessen!

To further future collaborations!
