This workshop is designed to prepare Doctoral Candidates in FB 03, 04 and 05 for the defense of their dissertation. We will cover administrative and strategic aspects of how to organize and prepare for the defense, as well as talking about the defense process itself. The workshop will include the staging of mock defenses, as well as input from those who have already completed their defense.
Participants are asked to prepare the following:
- Any questions that you may have regarding the organization and preparation for the defense, and / or regarding the defense itself, and any topics that you would especially like to be emphasized in the discussion (please send these to the instructor in advance)
- A one-page abstract of your own dissertation argument (to be sent to the instructor in advance – these abstracts will also be shared with the group for the purposes of preparing for and staging the mock defense)
Please register for the course as early as possible and by 18.01.2015 at the latest. Please also send your one-page abstract and any topics for discussion to Tom.Clucas@gcsc.uni-giessen.de by this date.
