Chair of Laboratory Animal Science and Animal Welfare
-
The professorship for laboratory animal science and animal welfare represents the subjects of laboratory animal science, animal welfare, and ethology in research and teaching. In veterinary education and later professional life, veterinarians are particularly committed to animal welfare. The ethics code of veterinarians (Codex Veterinarius, TVT) states:
Veterinarians, in addition to their diverse public responsibilities, should use their expertise and fulfill their role as experts assigned to them by animal welfare legislation to raise the general standard of animal protection for all animals. In doing so, they should continuously improve both the health and the wellbeing of animals.
The teaching concepts and content of the professorship for laboratory animal science and animal welfare are designed to fulfill these special veterinary responsibilities.
