Chair of Nutrition in Prevention & Therapy
Diet-related diseases diminish the quality of live and generate significant costs for health systems. Age-related diseases come to the fore especially in societies with significant demographic changes. Nutritional strategies can substantially contribute to the prevention or even to cure diseases.
Our research focusses on:
- Nutritional Neuroscience
- Role of mitochondria in brain aging
- Impact of mitochondria for nutrition- and age related diseases
- Role of the cerebral mevalonate pathway for brain aging
- Nutritional approaches for the prevention and therapy of nutrition- and age related diseases with focus on Alzheimer`s disease
Our interdisciplinary team is specially dedicated to explore the underlying mechanisms of ageing and age-related diseases and its modulation by food-based prevention and pharmacological intervention.
A special focus lies on brain aging and neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer`s disease. To understand neurodegenerative diseases is one of the major challenges of the 21st century since the global trend in the phenomenon of population aging has dramatic consequences for public health, healthcare financing and delivery systems in the world.
Our teaching activities focus on:
- Anatomy & Physiology
- Nutritional medicine and clinical nutriton
- PharmaNutrition and nutritional neuroscience
