JLU in the Excellence Strategy
Excellence on a solid foundation
With around 145 million euros in third-party funding, research grants and other income, JLU is a research-intensive university. The university is funded in numerous collaborative research programs - including several collaborative research centers, DFG Priority Programs and research units. Following its continuous success in the Excellence Initiative (2006-2019), the Cluster of Excellence "Cardiopulmonary Institute" (CPI) - together with Goethe University Frankfurt and the MPI for Heart and Lung Research in Bad Nauheim - and JLU's participation in the Cluster of Excellence "Post Lithium Storage" (POLiS) of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT) and the University of Ulm have been funded in the Excellence Strategy since 2019. This makes JLU the most successful Hessian university in the first competition phase of the Excellence Strategy of the federal and state governments (2019-2025).
Following the DFG's call for full proposals in February 2024, JLU is entering the next round of the Excellence Strategy of the Federal and State Governments with the new cluster proposal "The Adaptive Mind" (TAM) and two continuation proposals for existing Clusters of Excellence (CPI, POLiS).
CPI makes fundamental and internationally leading contributions to cardio-pulmonary research and therapy development for heart and lung diseases.
Cardiopulmonary Institute – CPIPOLiS is conducting the battery research of the future in order to lay the foundations for more powerful, more reliable and more environmentally friendly energy storage systems
Post Lithium Storage – POLiSTAM aims to understand the fundamental processes of human perception, thinking and behavior that enable us to adapt to constantly changing conditions.
