ATW student Hannah Helbig wins the Audience Award of the Körber Studio Junge Regie 2024

Hannah Helbig, student of Applied Theatre Studies at Justus Liebig University Giessen, won the Audience Award at the "Körber Studio Junge Regie" festival on Sunday, June 9, for her production "'Strukturen und Menschen' - Tagebuch einer Hospitantin 2.0". The Körber Studio Junge Regie is considered on of the most important platform for directing students and colleges in the German-speaking world. Twelve theater training institutions from Germany, Austria and Switzerland took part in the 2024 competition at Hamburg's Thalia Theater.

Hannah Helbig presented a lecture performance in which she critically examines power structures at German theater institutions. The piece is based on her own experience as an intern. With a meticulous eye, Helbig analyzes the manifestations, modes of action and - physical and psychological - effects power abuse in artistic production processes. Diary entries and voice messages alternate with feminist perspectives and structural criticism. In just under an hour, a picture of an exploitative employment relationship emerges that often goes hand in hand with institutionalized production processes in the performing arts.

Hannah Helbig, born in Wiesbaden in 2001, has already developed various collective theater works. She is interested in questioning the unquestioned through theatrical means and oscillating between canon, institutional and self-criticism.
