The prizes, endowed with 3,000 euros, are intended to promote the scientific achievements of outstanding young scientists. The Dr. Herbert Stolzenberg Prizes can only be awarded to members and affiliates of Justus Liebig University Giessen; work by alumni that was produced during their time at Giessen can be considered. The work to be awarded the prizes should not be older than two years.

The awards are presented in these sections:

  • 1. Law
  • 2. Business
  • 3. Chemistry
  • 4. Human Medicine

Proposals can be submitted not only from the relevant faculties but also from research areas that are related to the aforementioned disciplines or work on an interdisciplinary basis in these fields. All members and affiliates of Justus Liebig University Giessen can submit proposals until August 15, 2024.

Favorable expert opinions on the qualifications of the nominee from at least two academics, at least one of whom must not belong to the working group or the closest subject area of the nominee, as well as a curriculum vitae and a list of publications, must be attached to the proposal.

In principle, independent work by individual academics is eligible for the award, whereas dissertations are generally not considered, and the work should be habilitation worthy if possible.

The award winners should also distinguish themselves through their overall outstanding scientific output.

Proposals and applications must be submitted in triplicate to the president of Justus Liebig University Giessen via the dean's office of the respective faculty. If several proposals and applications are submitted for a faculty, the dean's office shall determine the ranking of the proposals and applications in a supplementary statement and justify it in a comprehensible manner.
