Tandem Language Learning
What is Tandem language learning?
The idea of a Tandem language partnership is that two people with different mother tongues help each other learn each other's language. It is also an opportunity for cultural exchange. A Tandem language partnership is primarily a private friendship and thus part of the participants' free time. Learning a language in class should ideally be complemented by practicing in an informal environment such as a Tandem. Therefore, the arrangement is completely up to the participants: Asking a Finnish student about studying in Finland, preparing an internship in Bordeaux with the help of a French friend, discussing politics with a fellow Italian student or getting to know Gießen city life with Germans.
Why Tandem?
A Tandem language partnership can be a good and worthwhile experience for various reasons:
- Get over your fear to speak a foreign language
- Practice free conversation with a native speaker
- Flexibility
- Learn a language in a stress-free and fun environment
- Get a closer look at another culture
- And maybe find a friend for life
- Etc.
