Simone is a molecular biologist and zoologist and was caught by a research passion for parasites already in her master studies. At that time, she analyzed the host-parasite interaction of schistosomes at the chemical level. After her PhD on the immune response in leishmaniasis, she addressed the exciting question of whether immune modulation by schistosomes can prevent the development of allergies. For this, Simone went to The Netherlands as a PostDoc for three years. Since 2016, she has dedicated herself to the cell biology and molecular biology of schistosomes and liver flukes in Giessen, first as a member of Christoph Grevelding's research group and since 2022 as an independent research group leader. Among several awards and fellowships, we can highlight the Karl-Asmund-Rudolphi Medal, which was awarded to her by the German Society of Parasitology for her achievements as a junior parasitologist.
