Description:
The lecture deals with the basics of investment and financing. The first part of the event introduces the net present value criterion as the decisive rule in evaluating cash flows. Subsequently, the net present value criterion is applied to the valuation of bonds, stocks, and investment projects. The second part of the event focuses on aspects of risk. Specifically, an introduction to portfolio theory is provided here, and the Capital Asset Pricing Model (CAPM) is introduced to ultimately determine the risk-adjusted interest rate for the discounting of risky cash flows. The final part of the event sheds light on the capital market as a source of financing for companies. The efficient market hypothesis, different financing instruments, and the possibility of raising capital via the capital market are given particular attention. Upon completion of the module, students will be able to understand and critically evaluate entrepreneurial investment and financing decisions.
