Objectives: Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:

  1. relate how project management contributes to business success;
  2. explain the main tasks involved in and outputs of initiating, planning, executing, monitoring and controlling, and closing projects;
  3. use project management tools and techniques such as work breakdown structure, Gantt charts, network diagrams, and critical path analysis;
  4. complete and close projects using Lessons Learned.

Dr. Petra Georgi achieved her Diploma degree in Chemical engineering and Environmental Technologies at the HTW Dresden in 1998. She started her career in 1999 as researcher at Leibniz-Institute for Solid State and Materials Research Dresden (IFW Dresden) and received her PhD in 2004 from TU Dresden in Physical Chemistry. From 2002 on Petra worked as Research Funding Consultant at IFW Dresden. In 2006 Petra graduated with a MBA for Higher Education and Research Management from FH Osnabrück.
Since October 2007 Petra is employed at DLR, first as Head of Contract Administration Oberpfaffenhofen and since May 2009 as Head of Project Management Support in Cologne. Petra Georgi is a PMI certified Project Management Professional (PMP) and acts as Administrative Project Manager for several complex space research related projects, including the European Data Relay System (EDRS).
