Mission Statement
Political education in the broader sense of civic education gains its profile from all offers for political learning and teaching, and includes economic, social and socio-scientific as well as legal issues. Civic education is thus understood as a transdisciplinary task that can be organized in and out of school. It is therefore also about processes and structures of political socialization, in and outside of educational institutions, as well as about options and possibilities for professional learning and teaching of politics in order to support social participation and promote maturity. Civic education encompasses both subject-specific and interdisciplinary aspects in institutional educational programs (kindergarten, school, university). In extracurricular contexts, civic education offers are linked to different providers (churches, trade unions, independent providers, etc.), which alternate between service and professional learning offers. Specific standards (Beutelsbach Consensus), specialist and methodological knowledge are required in all civic education programs.
Target Group
The working group is aimed at (early career) researchers who deal with questions of political education in the sense mentioned above. Members of the working group can find support and advice here.
